Clueless About Costs?

Question from LS in Ewing, NJ:
I feel clueless about costs and what needs to be done when it comes to re-designing the rooms in my home.  What do I need to consider before getting in touch with a professional designer about re-doing my bathroom?

Lynn Answers:
Consider how long you plan to live in your home.
Are you making a long-term investment that you will enjoy for years to come?
Are you updating your home for sale in the near future?
Or, do you plan to sell eventually, but want to live in your home for several more years?

If you plan to sell, The National Kitchen & Bath Association suggests spending no more than 5 to 10 percent of your home’s value on the total project.
Industry experts suggest that consumers can expect to recoup up to 75 percent of the cost of a bathroom renovation, if the remodel is done right.
If you aren’t sure of your home’s value, invest in an appraisal before moving forward with a bathroom renovation.
A Certified Bathroom Designer will develop a comprehensive budget for your project that is appropriate to your home’s value and that fits your wallet.
And in the end, you will actually save money, on a project that is done right!
